Bright: Samurai Soul

Bright: Samurai Soul is a Japanese animated film set in the historical period of Japan, featuring elements of martial arts and action. Directed by Kyōhei Ishiguro, the film stars Yūki Nomura, Daisuke Hirakawa, Shion Wakayama, and Miyavi as voice actors. The story takes place during the Meiji Restoration era of Japan, involving humans, Orcs, yokai, and the celestial realm. It begins in the past, where two powerful forces engage in a battle to possess a mystical staff that can either bring light to the world or plunge it into darkness. After one side is defeated, everything returns to normal and darkness is subdued. Many years later, in the present, the forces of light and darkness strive to retrieve the legendary staff by hunting down yokai. A samurai named Izou, an Orc named Raiden, and a young yokai named Sonya find themselves caught in a deadly battle to claim the staff, which had once caused a bloody conflict in the past. The most captivating aspect of the film is its incorporation of Japanese woodblock-style graphics. However, it is criticized for its disjointed storyline and lack of novelty. Nomura delivers a commendable performance as Izou, portraying him as a formidable and silent warrior, while Wakayama shines in scenes that require emotional expression.
