Jang Yeong Sil

Jang Yeong Sil (Song Il Gook) was born to Eun Bok, the son of a nobleman, and a giseng. Growing up as a low-ranking servant, Yeong Sil met his father, Jang Sung Hwi (Kim Myung Soo),at a young age. Recognizing his son's intelligence and brightness, his father decided to introduce him to the world of astronomy. Unfortunately, due to the strict new rules implemented by the government (and the king) during the transition from Goryeo to Joseon, Sung Hwi realized that his son would never be able to fully unleash his potential in a society that discriminated based on social class. He made the difficult decision to leave his son for Yeong Sil's own benefit. This broke Yeong Sil's heart, but it did not diminish his love for astronomy.

While despised and jealous by his former master, Jang Hee Je (Lee Jee Hoon),Yeong Sil decided to become a blacksmith, only to be sponsored by a judge. Everything changed when Lee Hyun (Kim Do Hyun) recognized Yeong Sil's abilities one day and brought it to the attention of the king: initially, King Taejong (Kim Young Chul) rejected the idea, but soon after, his son, Crown Prince Se Jong (Kim Sang Kyung),decided to work with him. This stirred up hatred and jealousy from the nobles, making Yeong Sil's life much more difficult...
